Linda asks…
How much weight would I lose?
I am 16 years old,5’7″ and weigh 215lbs,how much weight would I lose by exercising 1 to 2 hours/day,eating healthy for the next three months?I am trying to thin down for this girl I like and I would do anything to slim down to weighing at least 180lbs,I don’t care if I have to hurt myself in the process. The thing is that I think this girl likes me too since I catch her looking at me sometimes. Now I know your all gonna say “just go ahead and ask her” and other things, but in order for me to approach her i need to feel confident about myself and the only way I can is by being thin.

Jane answers:
This is going to sound harsh, but if you don’t care about hurting yourself to lose weight, you are not worthy of her. A girl wants a guy who is willing to do the hard work to lose weight (or do anything else) in the proper way.

Sharon asks…
can walking lose weight?
a little background info….I’m currently 120 pounds and 5 foot tall. I want to lose 20 pounds and look slimmer. I know that 100 pounds is an realistic weight for my height. I ‘ll be going to school within this week so my time available to workout will be limited cause of hard level classes.
I was wondering if walking an hour a day, every day on the treadmill will allow me to reach my goal in three months, slim down everywhere and lose fat on my thighs, butt and stomach. I don’t drink soda or eat junk food, except for the occasional chocolate. Seeing my skinny family members makes me unhappy about myself so i want to change. Thank you for the help.

Jane answers:
Well 120 pounds is not so bad! But still depends on your age…. If you do not have junk food or anything it also depends on the cause that’s giving you weight! But here is the answer to your question:
walking is good and will help! But it will probably not make you loose 20 pounds! Here are some tips:
exercise: exercise at least 30 minutes a day but it would be great if an hour… Go to the gym a couple times a week, go on your treadmill and run for a bit…. Remember always do stretching first! Just do an exercise that seems to work for you!
Food: food is one of the most important part! When you feel like snaking
, have some fruit or vegetables. Drink lots of water hydration will help! Try eating different things like: fish, salad… Anything that seems to help will do!

Maria asks…
will slimfast work for me?
i am 150 pounds and 5’3.
i exercise a lot and for many years. i spend about 3 hours at the gym every other to three days. im very strong, so please working out more wont help! if i work out anymore im going to be there all day!
but i am 150 pounds. i want to be leaner. and thinner.
i dont know why i am so heavy, except my bf loves to eat out and took me with him first couple yrs into our relationship. im trying to slim down. but i keep getting hungry.
if i use slimfast correctly will it help me in my particular situation? has it worked for you?

Jane answers:
All diets work in the same way. If they restrict calories to a point where you are burning more than you eat, you will lose weight. If the diet does this than it will work, if not you will fail. Whether or not a diet is healthy is separate from whether or not it will work. If you severely restrict calories to under 1200 per day, you will lose weight but going this route is very unhealthy so be careful when reading about these diets. Also beware of diets that limit you to one food. Even if you are taking in a good amount of calories, you won’t be able to get all the vitamins, nutrients, fat, carbohydrates or protein from just one type of food.

Mary asks…
Want to flatten my abs by doing 1,000 sit ups a day and its tough, any suggestions?
I’m a woman at 5 foot 1 inch and weigh somewhere between 125 and 130 pounds. I think I’m really morbidly fat and want to drop to 105 pounds. Everyone else says I look just fine, and that it’s very risky for me to be that light. Three years ago I dropped as low as 110 pounds from rigorous exercise and crash dieting, I was p*$$ed cause I wanted to lose 5 more pounds and couldn’t for some reason. Everyone was concerned that I would get sick–but I felt great and got a good high for cutting out meals! In fact, it feels good to go all day without eating sometimes. Sounds weird, I know. Someone suggested that I should tone my body and abs if I want to look skinnier. So I tried doing 1,000 sit ups a day. Problem here is that I can barely get past 100 of them without hurting myself. Any suggestions? I don’t mean to sound like an unrealistic idiot here, but I want to slim down to a size 2 and look and feel healthier.

Jane answers:
Wow..umm no and no and no…1000 sit ups without being trained and building up to it will one only hurt you, 2 sit ups/crunches etc just build muscle (which btw weighs more than fat so don’t always go by the scale) which will sit under any abdominal fat you may have. The way to lose weight is thru cardio exercise ie: walking, jogging aerobics things that get your heart rate up! Also eatting correctly, lower fat, less sugar, lots of fruits veggies and protein and yes carbs but the right kind comblex carbohydrates think whole wheat grains brown rice not simple carbs ie: white starches cookies breads etc. Cut out the processed foods. 105 pounds isn’t too skinny for your height but then again it could be depending on your build.I wouldnt go lower though and WHY a friggin size 2 omg thats so not realistic and most guys dont want a stick some curves are good you know? Being happy with yourself is the key it wont matter how much you lose if you don’t like yourself the way you are…I wish you could stop stressing about all these things.

Helen asks…
How can I slim my thighs without cutting anymore calories?
I am 5’4″ and about 130 lbs most days. I’m fine with my weight, but I really just want to slim down my thighs, so I exercise at least three times a week, about 45 minutes at a time. I eat a good breakfast and eat a good dinner, but don’t have time for lunch due to classes, so I eat two small snacks in between. I don’t think I could cut any more calories without it becoming unhealthy. So my question is, is there any way I can slim my thighs down without cutting calories? I try to do more aerobic workouts (like running, rollerblading, or Zumba) but it seems like anytime I work out (especially with weights!) my thigh muscles just keep getting bigger. Any suggestions? I’m soooooo tired of my huge thighs, how they rub together all the time and that I have those stupid saddlebags. I have heard it over and over again that I need to combine both muscle-building exercises with aerobic exercises to burn fat, but the fat never goes away. It just adds muscle.

Jane answers:
Sounds like you need to combine both muscle building exercises with aerobic exercises to burn your fat.
Heh jk, but it is good advice. Neglect your legs when you are weight training, resistance training your legs WILL make them bigger. Concentrate on upper body exercises to avoid this, with emphasis on the core and back, but don’t forget to work arms too, muscle makes your body the shape it’s meant to be, you don’t want to be another “skinny fat” person.
Aerobic exercise is great for weight loss, as it burns a good amount of calories. What I think you should try is called HIIT (high intensity interval training), which is the most calorie demanding form of exercise known so far. You can do research on HIIT if you want, but it’s basically working out in intervals on extreme high intensity (sprinting or running at an unmaintainable speed) and low intensity (slow jogging or walking if you have to) to catch your breath, then repeat.
Keep in mind this will only increase your calorie demand, and if you aren’t increasing your calorie intake this is essentially the same thing as reducing your calorie intake, something to keep in mind if you are worried about your intake already.
