Many women have trouble finding a good path to Walk for weight loss. If you have this problem, you’ll be glad you found this article. When scoping out a route to walk to drop pounds, there are three things to pay attention to: the setting and distance from you, hills on the route, and walk-ability of the path.
To start, you need to chose a comfortable setting. After all, why would you want to walk some place uncomfortable?
Walking in the mountains is a great option, but don’t think you have to drive far out of your way to walk. If it’s close, by all means, hike and enjoy.
But, if you’re a city dweller there are still quite a few great places to walk: parks, pedestrian/bike trails, neighborhoods, school tracks, college campuses, public buildings, malls, department stores, etc. work, and are a good place to walk.
Google maps is very helpful for checking out new locations. It’ll tell you how far something is, and it can even give walking directions including mileage and estimated time! However, don’t blindly trust it–it’s still new, and can make mistakes. But, the satellite photos google has are incredibly helpful. So, use them to your advantage, and plot out new paths in advance.
Second, make sure your route contains a few small hills. Hills allow you to increase the vigor of your workout, which helps you burn more calories and raises your metabolic rate–two things that’ll help your weight loss endeavors.
Adding hills to your walking path should be relatively easy to do, but if you are unable to locate any hills there are a few things you can do. The first is walk slightly more briskly during part of your walk (cf. interval training). Look for a place with staircases to walk up instead (school tracks, public buildings, malls, and college campuses have lots of these). Or you can just extend your walk by a few minutes everyday.
Third, find a route you can safely walk daily. Don’t chose walking trails that are dangerous or difficult to maneuver. Search for low traffic areas or consider having different routes to walk for different days of the week or times of the day. And in general, avoid large roads, even just crossing–having to deal with cars will eat your time, believe me.
And think safety first! If walking at night, make sure to wear bright clothes or even hunter orange and/or reflectors. Consider walking with friends–a great motivator!–or bringing a dog with you. Always tell people where you are going before you head out. Chose a route with as little traffic as possible.
Now you should be able to find the perfect path to walk for weight loss, so get out there and shed those pounds today!
